This brewing by-product turned toast topper has achieved cult status since 1905. The company’s “Love it or hate it” ad campaign is bang on the money recently being recognised as a snowclone. The tagline replaced “My Mate, Marmite” as I remember it from the 80s. The growing up spread you never grow out of. Those who love it don’t just want to eat it - Eat Marmite? They want to bathe in it, wallow like a hippo in mud in it.
